New Academic Wage-Subsidy Program to Create 1,000 Student Job Opportunities in Canadian Biotech Companies
OTTAWA, August 2017 – BioTalent Canada today announced a new initiative to increase job-readiness of post-secondary STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and business students across Canada.
BioTalent Canada was awarded the Student Work-Integrated Learning Program (SWILP) this summer, an Employment and Social Development Canada funded project that will enable student to participate in 1000 new bio-economy co-ops. This 4-year project is BioTalent Canada’s largest to date and will help STEM and business students gain hands-on practical experience within the sector. Ultimately, this experience will help bridge the gap between industry and academia while helping to strengthen Canada’s bio-economy.
BioTalent Canada is excited to announce that the Honourable Minister Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, officially launched the project at Synaptive Medical, one of BioTalent Canada’s long-standing showcase employers and project supporters. The launch included several local employers, SWILP co-op students and government officials.
