EDMONTON (June 6, 2016) – BioAlberta, the life sciences association of Alberta, is organizing a group of government and industry partners to attend the annual Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) International Convention. San Francisco will host 15,000+ biotechnology experts and pharma leaders for BIO 2016, which takes place from June 6 - 9. Interest is greater than ever as this event covers a wide spectrum of life science and application areas including drug discovery, biomanufacturing, genomics, biofuels, nanotechnology and cell therapy.
BioAlberta is pleased to announce that the Minister of Economic Development & Trade, Deron Bilous, will be attending the BIO International Convention to promote Alberta as a destination for research and investment. The Minister will be taking part in a roundtable with major pharmaceutical companies to discuss proposals for closer industry and government collaboration to advance medical research and economic diversification within the province. The roundtable has been jointly organized by BioAlberta and Innovative Medicines Canada.
“BIO 2016 is the place to be for any organization involved in the biotechnology sector.” says Mel Wong, President and CEO of BioAlberta. “The BIO convention is the consummate forum for networking, information sharing and business development for industry leaders, government officials, journalists, and other stakeholders. It is the largest gathering of biotechnology leaders in the world, and this year will feature more than 2,500 companies exhibiting in 220,000 square feet. The convention program features breakout sessions, six super sessions on major industry topics, keynote speakers, one-on-one partnering sessions and fireside chats.”
“We will once again profile Alberta’s research, commercialization and company strengths under one umbrella on the tradeshow floor, in the Alberta section of the Canada Pavilion. We strongly believe that the industry can play a major role in diversifying Alberta’s economy,” says Wong “and we are very happy to have Minister Deron Bilous leading a delegation of 50+ comprised of Alberta life science company representatives and industry supporters. This year, exhibitors within the Alberta pavilion will include four Access2BIO funding recipients: Aquila Diagnostics Inc.; Entos Pharmaceuticals; KMT Hepatech Inc.; and SolAeroMed Inc.”
During BIO 2016, BioAlberta will host the 9th annual Alberta Reception which has developed a significant following over the years. It has become a key event for Alberta delegates to meet new contacts, develop relationships with potential partners, and renew acquaintances.
