Access2BIO Funding Available for SME's to Attend
BIO International Convention 2016

BioAlberta has partnered with AITF, AIHS and Alberta Economic Development and Trade to help Alberta Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) attend the BIO International Convention 2016 (BIO) in San Francisco (June 6-9, 2016).  Funding of up to $6,000  per company is available for up to four Alberta based SMEs to attend BIO through AITF’s Micro-Voucher program.  

To qualify for the AITF Micro-Voucher to specifically attend BIO the SME needs to:

  • be headquartered in Alberta
  • have been in operations for a minimum of one year
  • be an early-stage company with a minimum of two employees or a maximum of 20 employees
  • have therapeutic, biologic, drug delivery, or animal health focused product/service
  • submit a proposal that clearly articulates how attending BIO will help the company succeed including:
    • How attending BIO aligns with their business plan,
    • Who you intend to meet with
    • What your value proposition is to the companies you will be meeting with versus your competitors

Eligible expenses include:

  • flight expenses
  • ground transportation to and from airports
  • hotel for up to five nights
  • conference fee (reduced rate partnering passes can be obtained through BioAlberta)
  • meals not provided at an organized event
  • exclusions: alcoholic beverages and entertainment expenses

The SME is expected to participate wherever possible in Team Alberta events during BIO (itinerary to be provided by BioAlberta prior to BIO) and must also agree to:

  • Contribute 25% of the total costs as part of the Micro-Voucher process
  • Attend the pre-BIO Bootcamp offered by BioAlberta
  • Submit a final report with supporting expense receipts before payment is made

Deadline for Micro Voucher application submission for Access2BIO EXTENDED to midnight on May 5, 2016.  

The application process is competitive, all applications will be reviewed by the working group consisting of members from funding partners including the Government of Alberta, BioAlberta, AITF, and AIHS.  High quality applications from SMEs that have not obtained Access2BIO funding previously, will be given priority.  Successful applicants will be notified on or before May 20, 2016.
