Turning Edmonton into a biotech powerhouse: Will the Cleveland model work?

BioEnterprise, based in Cleveland, Ohio, is an organization that assists early stage biotech and medical device firms. Since 2002 it has created 80 new companies, attracted more than $860 million of new funding to these companies, and concluded over 300 tech transfer deals. AS a result of this activity Cleveland has become the US’s “new healthcare innovation destination”.

Tom Facklam is a former VP of Life Sciences at the Alberta Research Council, and CEO of IFASA [Institute for Food and Agricultural Science of Alberta]. He has spent several years at BioEnterprise before returning to Alberta recently. Tom will describe the BioEnterprise approach.
