Dr. Antoine (Tony) Noujaim

                                                          

Dr. Antoine (Tony) Noujaim PhD was born in Egypt and obtained his BSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Cairo University, an MSc and PhD in Bionucleonics from Purdue University.

Dr. Noujaim was Professor Emeritus of the University of Alberta and a director of a number of biotechnology companies. Dr. Noujaim served as an officer or chairman of various scientific organizations, editorial boards and national scientific committees; authored more than 200 publications, had more than 100 issued patents and patent applications; was the recipient of a number of national and international awards for contributions in the field of antibody-mediated therapeutics.

Dr. Noujaim received the country’s highest Pharmaceutical Research “McNeil Award”; was selected as an Old Master and as the Distinguished Alumnus of Purdue University. He was awarded the Alberta Science and Technology award; the ASTech/National Research Council of Canada Award; received an honorary Doctor of Science Degree from the UofA; the Governor General of Canada’s 125 centennial medal; the City of Edmonton’s ambassador award; and the Canadian Society of Pharmaceutical Science Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. Noujaim co-founded Biomira Inc.; founded and served as Chair of the Board, CSO, and President and CEO of AltaRex Corp.; and subsequently served as Chairman and CEO of ViRexx Medical Corp. He also served on numerous industry boards.

In July 2006, Dr. Noujaim passed away. His legacy will continue to build in this region for many years to come as practically everyone in the industry has been touched by Tony’s kindness and generosity.
