Honourable E. Peter Lougheed

                                                           

Mr. E. Peter Lougheed PC, CC, AOE, QC, BA, LL.B, MBA, LL.D born in Calgary, Alberta, is a Canadian lawyer, a former politician and Canadian Football League player. He served as premier of Alberta from 1971 to 1985.

As Premier, Lougheed furthered the development of the oil and gas resources, and initiated the Alberta Heritage Fund as a way of ensuring the exploitation of non-renewable resources would be of long-term benefit to Alberta. He also introduced the Alberta Bill of Rights.

Mr. Lougheed is presently a partner in the Calgary law firm of Bennett Jones LLP and he currently sits on the Board of Directors of a variety of organizations and corporations, including the RBC, the Carlyle Group, ATCO Limited, Bechtel Canada Incorporated, CP Limited, Carlson Construction Limited, CFCN Communications Limited, DMR Group Incorporated, Luscar Limited, The Matthews Group, Norcen Energy Limited, Northern Telecom Limited, Princeton Developments Limited, PWA Corporation, Quorum Capital Corporation, Reed Stenhouse Companies Ltd. He also serves on the National Advisory Committee for the Banff School of Management, and is an advisor to the Government of NWT.

In the recent past, he served as Co-Chair of the Canadian Alliance for Trade and Job Opportunities (1988) and Honorary Chairman of the XV Olympic Winter Games Organizing Committee (1987 and 1988).

The creation of the Alberta Heritage Fund and the Fund for Medical Research was indeed visionary, and the impact that AHFMR has had on our industry is impressive.
