Mr. Paul Lucas, President & CEO GlaxoSmithKline Inc.

“A Trust-based Relationship Between Academia and Pharma: Why It Is Important, How To Build It”

There is a ‘trust deficit’ today in the relationship between Canada’s research-based pharmaceutical companies and its universities. This has serious and far-reaching implications for medical research in Canada, for the country’s ability to address a growing innovation gap with its peers in the developed world, and for our ability to address the issue of the long-term sustainability of Canada’s healthcare system. Paul Lucas, President & CEO, GlaxoSmithKline Inc., explores the roots of the problem and examines the many ways that pharma and academia interact, as well as the benefits that arise from their collaboration. Finally, he ‘connects the dots’ between the need for trusted partnerships, closing Canada’s growing innovation gap, and finding solutions to make our healthcare system sustainable.

4:00pm – 5:30pm on January 19, 2012 in Edmonton Clinic Health Academy Room L1-190.

There will be a 45 minute Q&A session. Light refreshments will be served immediately following the lecture.

There are limited spots so please RSVP early to guarantee a seat.
