About the Japanese Companies

Canon, well-known for its consumer and office products, also develops imaging technologies for different industries. In the medical industry, its technologies include optical coherence tomography (OCT), optical ultrasound imaging image fusion.
While continuing to work on industry-academia collaborations with Kyoto University and other centres of learning in Japan, Canon intends to promote the spread of open innovation throughout the world. It wishes to collaborate with research organizations and corporations to formulate development strategies and conduct joint research.
Mission Objective: Import technologies into the Japanese market - interests in radiology related products given Canon handles digital X-ray panels. Other interests are in products targeting point-of-care and home medical care
MYS Co. Ltd.
MYS Co. Ltd., based in Sapporo, stared as a manufacturer of medical specimen analysis systems. Currently, it develops systems for bacteriological examination and blood transfusion examination which are mostly custom-ordered by some of Japan’s big brands and by relatively large hospitals. President Yasunari Yoshida was originally a clinical technologist. Using his knowledge as a system engineer, he established MYS in 1994 as a medically focused system engineering company.
Mission Objective: Find technical partners or exporters of medical systems - interested in technologies related to ultrasonic, electrocardiogram, blood analysis, data transfer used for diabetes, CardioComm Solutions, or any other system/software for health care
Toshiba Medical Systems’ corporate concept is “Adoption of collaborative research with international facilities” and the company has been engaged in cooperative research and development activities with a variety of medical and research institutions around the world. Its products include:

  • Clinical Laboratory Systems

Mission Objective: Research & Development collaboration in medical imaging technologies - with particular interests in the following areas:
  • Image processing technologies, such as CAD (Computer-Aided Diagnosis), high-speed 3D rendering, etc.
  • X-ray detecting technologies, such as new type of detector, high-performance scintillator, etc.
  • New medical imaging technologies based on innovative ideas
  • New device technologies which could be implemented into Toshiba’s products
