Agricultural Biotechnology

Agricultural biotechnology is altering living organisms to modify products which can contribute to sustainability. This includes altering plants to be herbicide tolerant or insect and disease resistant. Additionally, it results in the extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables.

A new project under construction by BioFefinex Canada is the Lacombe BioRefinery. This biorefinery will turn plant and animal waste from food processing and agriculture into renewable natural gas and organic fertilizer. This allows for reusing waste products and turning it into something useful, allowing for maximum utilization of the resources provided.  This refinery is in a prime location in Alberta where diversified livestock is present.
